IHS Q&A

Question: We’ve decided to go from an apartment to a small rental home in an HOA. I’ve never had to deal with an HOA before and I’m worried. How hard is it to live in a homeowner association?

Answer: Congrats on making the move to a rental home! We think you’ll find it’s going to be more difficult to rent a place with a perfect commute to work than to live in an HOA. Why are we so confident? You’ve been living in an apartment. Apartment complexes traditionally have a list of rules and regulations that include everything from parking instructions to a pet policy. If you don’t follow the rules, there are consequences.

Homeowner associations have their own list of rules and regulations. You’ll be expected to be considerate of your neighbors, maintain the property and enjoy the available amenities. You’ve already been doing this as an apartment resident so the transition to the homeowner association should be pretty simple. Good luck on moving to a new community!
